Lilit Thwaites
Literary Translator and Adjunct Prof of Spanish, La Trobe University
Lilit is an award-winning literary translator (Spanish>English), Adjunct Professor (contemporary Spanish literature) at La Trobe University, and current President of the Australian Association for Literary Translation (AALITRA). Her book translations include Luisa Etxenike’s Crossing Waters (Oct 2024), the bestselling The Librarian of Auschwitz (A. Iturbe; 2023, 2017), Australian Connection (2019), and two futuristic novels by Rosa Montero, Tears in Rain (2012), and Weight of the Heart (2016). Her translations of short stories, essays & poetry have been published in journals and anthologies. Lilit presents sessions at writers’ festivals, gives talks about Spain and translation, and organises visits to Australia by Spanish-speaking writers. In 2016, Lilit received Spain’s Cross of the Order of Civil Merit for her promotion of Spain’s literatures and cultures. She is an honorary lifetime member of AILASA.
