Macarena Gordillo de Paz

Dr Macarena Gordillo de Paz is a Lecturer in International Studies and Languages at the University of Technology Sydney, as well as a casual Lecturer in Spanish and Latin American Studies at the University of Sydney. Furthermore, she is an academic supervisor and examiner for the master’s degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Didactics and Research at the Universidad Nebrija, Madrid, Spain. Macarena’s research focuses on how the evolution of Spanish national identity in the popular culture context has shaped Contemporary Spain, revealing the underlying historical narratives of gender and transnational politics. Furthermore, she disseminates these Spanish cultural and linguistic studies into the Australian Anglophone culture. She focuses on the embedding of culture, as well as creative and innovative learning approaches into the teaching-learning process of Spanish as a foreign language. Her initiative in the development of new approaches to teaching Spanish through culture has enabled her to contribute to courses on Spanish and Latin American culture and society. Likewise, Macarena's innovative approaches and teaching methodology have led her to hold conferences both nationally and internationally in Australia, Beijing, Germany, Hong Kong, Lithuania, and Spain.
